The day will include a wide range of entertainment including some family-oriented acts early in the day including Scotty and the Stars, the Calithumpians, Multicultural dancers, and many others. Later in the day music will take center stage with popular local performers like Kill Chicago, Keith Hallett, My Black Ram, and many others will perform.

Canada Day Virtual Presented by Canada Life

The video includes original music, contemporary dance, spoken word, DJs, skateboarding, break dancing, and a serenade of the national anthem from a canoe on the Assinibione River. Faouzia performs her song The Mountain to the backdrop of a fireworks show, Taylor Janzen performs with a WSO cellist Emma Quackenbush to an empty festival field where she had originally been scheduled to perform with the full orchestra on July 1st. The video ends with an amazing performance of nearly a dozen Winnipeg musicians collaborating on Ruth Moody's One Voice, made famous by the Wailin' Jennys. The song is sung in English, Cree, French and American Sign Language. It is an anthem of our city, and a message of unity and hope to guide us all through troubled times.

“With everything we’ve been through as a city and a country so far this year, it’s certainly going to be a Canada Day never to forget,” said Mayor Lisa Helps. “Even though we can’t physically be together, we will still be able to come together and celebrate Canada’s diversity and its strength. We are excited to partner with CHEK, who will be broadcasting a one-hour, commercial-free Canada Day celebration for everyone to enjoy.”

The virtual celebration will feature music and performances by local groups, including the Lekwungen Dancers, as well as crowd-sourced content from the community. People can contribute to the broadcast themselves by uploading a 20-second video conveying “What it Means to Me to be Canadian” or by singing “O Canada”.
